-News Democrat Leader www.newsdemocratleader.com Tuesday, July 19, 2005 A-5 OBITUARIES Formerly of Logan County Lucy Williamson Hilburn, 82 Lucy Williamson Hilburn, 82, of Murfreesboro, Tenn. and formerly of Logan County, died Friday, July 15, 2005. She was born in Logan County on July 6, 1923, daughter of the late Luther Williamson and the late Julie Shoemake Williamson. She was an instructor with DuPont, Training Tech, an accountant with Sears and Roebuck, and a member of the First Baptist Church in Santa Clara, Calif. Funeral services were July 17 at Young Funeral Home, Russellville Chapel, with Brother Joe Carrico and Brother Wilbur Powell officiating.

Burial followed in Maple Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were Christopher Spain, Harold Grider, Tony Grider, Tim Grider, J.L. Williamson, and Ricky Williams. Surviving Mrs. Hilburn are her husband, Jim Hilburn of Murfreesboro; her daughter, Lisa Hilburn of Murfreesboro; her brother, J.L.

Williamson of Russellville; and her sisters, Kathy Eskew, Molly Williamson, Alma, Williams, all of Russellville, and Marie Grider of Smyrna, Tenn. Of Lewisburg Katherine Whitaker, 83 Katherine Lyons Whitaker, 83, of Lewisburg died Sunday, July 10, 2005 at the St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tenn. Funeral services were a at Oak Forrest Baptist Church on Wednesday, July 13, at 1 p.m. with the Reverends Tommy Sandlin, Mickey McPherson, and David Morgan officiating.

Burial followed in the Lewisburg Cemetery. Mrs. Whitaker was born on March 7, 1922 in Logan County, daughter of the late Carl Lyons and the late Essie Fleming Lyons. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Jessie Whitaker. Mrs.

Whitaker was a Seamstress at Red Kap Industries, was a member of Oak Forrest Baptist Church, and was a foster grandparent at Lewisburg School. Surviving are her daughters, Gerelda Stinson of Henderson, Eldora Skipworth of Henderson, Patricia Whitaker Thom of Russellville, and Barbara Womack of Henderson; her son, Gary Whitaker of Greenville; her sisters, Magdalene White of Lewisburg, Fae Shelton of Melvin, and Deltha Sally Pogue of Lansing, her brothers Aldwin Lyons of Lewisburg, Rhea Lyons of Danville, and Kenneth Lyons of Danville, 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Of Russellville Deborah Epley, 50 Deborah Epley, 50, of Russellville, died July 14, 2005. She was born in Logan County on Dec. 7, 1955, daughter of the late James William Epley and the late Ruth Evelyn Young Epley. She worked at the Auburn Hosiery Mill and was a member of the Post Oak Baptist Church. Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Steve Epley, and her sister, Linda Wheeler.

Funeral services were July 16 at the Young Funeral Home, Russellville Chapel with Brother Joe Carrico and Brother Wilbur Powell officiating. Burial followed in the Maple Grove Cemetery. of Pallbearers were Gary Gettings, Kevin Gettings, Kenneth Walker, Dustin Wheeler, B.J. Oberhausen, and Bobby Daniel Elamon. Surviving Ms.

Epley are her brother, Russell Epley of Russellville; her sisters, Marilyn Stratton and Vickie Steenbergen, both of Russellville, and Wanda Gettings of Norris, and thirteen nieces and nephews. Formerly of Russellville Mary Kimball Grier, 73 Mary Kimball Grier, 73, of Madison, formerly of Russellville, died July 10, 2005 at her residence. Mrs. Grier was certified in special education and was a volunteer with the Women's Committee of Wadsworth Anthenum, the Hartford Art School Auxiliary, Literacy Volunteers of Greater Hartford and the Learning Disabilities Association of Connecticut. She was also a member of Episcopal Church in Madison, the Hartford Golf Club, the Madison Beach Club and the Madison Winter Club, as well as corporator of the Hartford Art School.

While living in Russellville, she started a Saturday morning program for children wth dyslexia. Her late father, Roger Kimball, started Auburn Hosiery Mill in 1937. and its Adairville branch in 1946. She was a graduate of Ward Belmont School in Nashville in 1949 and Sweet Briar College in Virginia in 1953. A memorial service was held on July 16 at St.

Andrew's Church. Burial followed in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford, Conn. Mrs. Grier is survived by her husband, E. Bosworth Grier her sons and daughters-in-law, Ned and Katherine Kozub and Roger and Nancy Allin; her daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Glen Walter; her brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Sally Kimball; and her grandchildren, Garret, Kimball and Cameron.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Home Care, Division of the Connecticut Hospice Inc. at 100 Double Beach Road in Branford, Conn. 06405 or to the Literacy Volunteers of Greater Hartford at 30 Arbor Street, Hartford, Conn. 06106. Of Russellville Lucille Cotton Thurmond, 101 Lucille Cotton Thurmond, 101, of Russellville, died July 16, 2005, at Sacred Heart Village in Louisville. She was born Dec. 29, 1903 in Greenville, daughter of the late William Eyra Cotton and Hattie McMillen Cotton. A graduate of Western Kentucky University, she taught in the Russellville School District for more than thirty years and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. Mrs.

Thurmond was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a volunteer at Logan Memorial Hospital, and a Canasta Club member for many years. In addition, she was the recipient of the Sophia Award for Wisdom, presented by the Diocese of Owensboro in 2004. She was the widow of Brents Thurmond, and also preceded in death by her sons, Hal Hart Thurmond and Brents Baldwin Thurmond. She is survived by her daughters-in-law, Bettye and Elizabeth Thurmond, both of Hopkinsville; eleven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at Memorial Funeral Home in RusselIville today from 3 p.m.

until 9 p.m., with a Rosary at 7 p.m. Following the Rosary, family and friends are invited to reflect on their memories with life stories of Cotton. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Peter Stryker officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or charity of choice. Services are under the direction of the Memorial Funeral Home. Of Auburn Marie Dockins, 80 Marie Dockins, 80, of Auburn, died July 13, 2005 at Logan Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be private with burial in the Bucksville Cemetery in Auburn. Mrs.

Dockins was born in Logan County on July 14, 1924, daughter of the late Sewell Paisley and the late Hattie Johnson Paisley. She was a self-employed tax preparer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Warren Dockins. Surviving are her son, Ricky Dockins of Auburn; her daughter-in-law, Pam Dockins of Auburn; her granddaughters, Cindy Fisher of Auburn, Angie Sears of Auburn, and Candy Plumlee of Russellville; her sister, Sue Holloway of Russellville; and six great-grandchildren.
